Education is not unfolding.
Education is not training.
It is interesting to think that certain words have a double meaning--one negative and one positive. "Capacity" for example can be an emptiness to be filled--like a quart measure--or it can be a ready ability--the capacity of a carpenter to measure accurately. Similarly, with "immaturity." We can take a deficit view of all that a person cannot do, all that is missing and needs to be added in before the person can be mature (a responsible adult). Or, like Mr. Dewey, we can consider immaturity as future opportunity, "possibility for growth...a force positively present--the ability to develop" (p. 39).
